What type of ball should I play by: Joe Krarup MD passion-for-golf.com
This is a good question and one which depends on your current skill level. But as this site is dedicated to golf tips for beginners we'll assume your a beginner.
As a beginner I would recommend you choose a ball with less spin on it such as a Titleist DT SoLo, the Precept Laddie, or the Maxfli Noodle these balls are very reasonably priced and will play a large roll on reducing the side spin that you place on the ball.
There are basically 3 types of golf balls:-
Two-piece ball, or distance ball, this ball is suited to a less experienced player and will 'jump' of the tee resulting in greater distance with less spin, but as it's a hard ball you don't get much feel resulting in less control around the greens.
Three-piece ball, this ball is used by the low to mid handicapper, as they are softer you may lose some distance of the tee (depending on your ability) but you will get exceptional feel allowing extra back spin to 'stop' the ball on the green, also great for chipping and putting.
Four-piece ball, these balls are the same as the three-piece with a soft but durable urethane cover but with a second firm mantle layer. These balls are for the pros or players who can generate exceptionally high club head speed.
Use the ball that best suites your game and current ability.
