Wentworth Golf Club
An Oasis in Virginia Water Surrey

Wentworth Golf Club is a magnificent golfing Oasis set in Virginia Water Surrey in the UK, surrounded by ancient woodland of pine, oak and birch.

Wentworth Golf Club boast 3 championship courses on the Wentworth estate, and living a mere 30 miles away in Surrey myself, I have had the opportunity to have played the most famous of the 3 championship courses, the illustrious Wentworth West Course.

It's such a thrill to have walked the hallowed fairways and to have played the same magnificent holes such as Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros, Greg Norman, Nick Faldo, Ernie Els and Tiger Woods.

Wentworth Golf Club West Course annually host the BMW PGA Championships, won this year by Paul Casey, and the HSBC World Match Play Championships won this year by Angel Cabrera. The West Course has recently been modernized by Ernie Else thee time major winner and resident on the Wentworth estate and club member. When he last won the World Match Play on the Wentworth West Course, he picked up he's £1million prize, made he's exception speech and walked home!

Having played Wentworth West Course myself I can tell you how difficult it really is, particularly for someone off 18 handicap. The first tee is right in front of the magnificent club house, a 19th Century house which resembles a Castle.  All the fairways are tree lined by the ancient oaks and pines, you must land on the fairway. The fairways undulate, hardly leaving you a flat lie for your next shot.

The greens are frightingly quick and difficult to read, lots of them being two teared greens, so it's imperative to land the ball close to the pin.

The par 5's are all dog legs making it extremely difficult for mid to high handicappers to get there in 2, although the pros look to make birdies on all 4 par 5's on the West Course with both closing holes par 5's, the 17th measuring 610 yards!

A green fee for Wentworths West Course is £285.00. Wentworth does boast 2 other championship courses, the East Course and the more recently designed Edinburgh Course. But it is the famous West Course which is the jewel in the crown of Wentworth Golf Club.
