Greatest Shot I've Ever Hit (Longest Hole Out Of My Life)

Back in the mid "90's, I was in my early twenties and joined my family for a vacation near Chautauqua Lake in the southwestern corner of New York State. Only a couple courses to choose from at the time, and not championship layouts, but golf is golf, if you know what I mean. First time ever on the course and being in the habit of trying to out-muscle courses back then, I hit driver on everything not a par 3, even though the course played less than 6,000 yds and had some tight holes. On a short par four on the back nine, I blistered a drive that clears a hill on the fly and disappears from view. Upon walking over the crest of the hill, I discover the POND that I was not aware existed (no yardage book, 1st time on the course). Fuming a bit that I had just hit a 290 yd drive into an unknown pond, I dropped on the edge of the pond and preceded to hole out my 9 iron from 140 yds. Routine birdie...still the longest hole out of my life.
