If your as passionate about golf as
me Decent golf rain gear is essential if like me you're
mad for golf and play all year round. I live in the UK where the
weather is not the best in the world, and I play in all types of
conditions.
Trying to keep dry in a down pour is not easy, which is
why I always
have a great set of golf rain gear on, with additional extras in my
golf bag. Top tip, always keep a spare pair of golf gloves in your bag
in case you are unable to keep the ones your wearing dry, so you can
change gloves half way round.
A good golf umbrella is a no brainer for the hardened
golfer who
braves the rain and the wind. Be sure to buy a proper golf umbrella as
they have "wind flaps" that stop the umbrella from
collapsing or exploding outwards. They are also easier to walk into the
wind with.
Ok that was autumn, now for the winter.
As I said, I'm mad
for golf so yes I also play in the winter. What gets me through is a
nice warm pair of golf mitts, which I wear in between shots. The first
person I saw using this tactic was Fred Couples
playing in the World Matchplay at
Wentworth here in the UK.
A winter woolly hat is also a must. Most of your heat
loss is
through your head, hands & feet, so winter socks are also a
must.
As I mentioned on my golf
clothing
page, you need to feel comfortable at all times, so you can focus on
playing golf, and of course enjoy the game. If your wet and cold, then
that's no fun at all.
When playing in frosty conditions, good advice would be
to use a coloured golf
ball.
This makes finding your ball much easier, particularly on a frosty
morning when the sun is out. These are available in a variety of
colours and can be purchased in the pro-shop.
If you use these tips and advise, the winter will be
over in no
time, and you will be back on the links, you can shed your golf rain
gear, put on your shirt sleeves and maybe even a nice pair of tailored
shorts, enjoy the sun, and be back in golf heaven.
