Fairway Woods
The poor relation
Fairway Woods:- Although Drivers
steal the attention when it comes to driving the golf ball, particularly for beginners, woods
have always been the poor relation to the big guns
and are often overlooked in regards to how useful they are, and the
benefits they give.
Fairway Woods are generally safer
when teeing-off, especially for beginners and high handicappers. Their
shorter distance and higher control allow golfers to hit the fairway
and greens more often. This is also a very useful club for getting out
of trouble, for instance you may be in the
semi-rough and need to "nudge" your ball down the
fairway and back into play, Woods are extremely useful for that type of
shot.
Golfers of varying standards won't even carry a Driver
in their bag, and remain solely on their Woods,
note this is plural as you can have a number of Woods in your bag. I
have played with many golfers who only have Fairway Woods in their golf
bag!
Lots of golfers, (myself included) mix brands between
their Driver,
Woods and irons.
This is because they
feel comfortable with certain golf clubs. They are more confident with
their Callaway Big Bertha Driver,
perhaps a TaylorMade Wood and maybe a set of
Ping
irons. Over time you will feel the need to change your types
of golf clubs, particularly your putter.
Lowering
your score is all about playing to percentages,
and good course management.
Selecting the right equipment is all
